DNC and The Cage

It's that time of quadrennial, again.
Party conventions have come around, again.
Lots of streamers and hookers, my friend.
And protesters get a rod in the "end."

The big speeches. The big hair. Everyone watching what he says, so as not to sink the party before the nominee gets to have his big moment. I love the conventions.

What's up with the "cage?" Also known as the "free speech zone." I may just have downed too much Jaegermeister in college, but isn't the WHOLE DAMNED country a free speech zone? When I first heard of these zones being used in towns when the President was speaking, I was pissed. Now, that these zones are being used at the Democratic convention, too, I'm outraged. Fortunately, the convention is in Boston, so the cops aren't enforcing the cage.

I understand the need for tight security, but we must recall the reason any of this matters: this is America, the land of the free. NOT the land of the free speech zone. The only way the terrorists really "win" is to rob America of the liberties envisioned by our Founding Fathers and brought to fruition through centuries of struggle and sacrifice by our soldiers and those who've given everything to ensure the same liberties for all, regardless of race, sex, ethnicity, religion and, even today, sexual orientation. If we lose those freedoms, we may as well move to Serbia or something.
